As the kids and I drove to Grandma and Grandpas house we listened to the Story Story Podcast as we often do. I was captivated by one of the fairy tales in particular. Titled something to do with Making Your Own Luck, I rarely look up details when I write. I’d rather rely on my own memory than Google things then be liable for copyright down the road. Plus it’s better for my memory.
Paraphrased as a man who was extremely discontent with his life, his work and constantly compared himself to others who seemed to have better luck. He went to see a woman, she may have been a witch who told him to travel to the end of the Earth where he would find an old man who could answer any question that he has. On his way he encountered a wolf, a talking tree and a lovely woman. They all asked if he’d be so kind as to ask the old man a question for them. He obliged and continued on. It took him the better part of 2 years to reach the old man. Upon reaching him he received every answer he required including his own, “What you seek is in the journey”. The woman wanted companionship and asked how this might come about. The answer, marry the first man you see upon hearing this. She immediately asked the seeker, oddly he refused despite his affections for her. He was fixated on his journey, he continued on back to the tree. Who wished to grow strong and true. His answer was simply to eliminate the box of treasure entangled in the roots. The tree implored to remove it and keep the reward. The seeker refused, he had far too long of a journey ahead of him. Next he returned to the wolf who wished to understand his deep hunger and what to do about it. The seeker thought the answer very odd, that he should eat the next man he sees. The wolf promptly devoured him and enjoyed every bite.
As I’ve been developing my business plan I have been hyper focused on the journey. I believed that there was one way to achieve my goal of helping people achieve their homesteading dreams. Through coaching I could help people with mindset, understanding self, releasing limiting beliefs. Offering tools, meditations, visualizations, how to videos, affirmations, and alignments. At one point in analyzing hundreds of opportunities and courses that flood in through targeted adds I locked in on one in particular. I do believe in online education, coaches and mentors, though the market is a bit crazy right now. It reminds me of MLM in the 80’s.
Part of the model I’ve been designing is coaching people to create a passion based business to fund a homestead based on unique talents and gifts one possesses. I’ve looked at writing and marketing a book, selling art, stocks, crypto, farming, creating value added food products. I have a lot of experience in creating food products, and farming. I feel confident I could guide someone to a successful path, but in all honesty something didn’t feel right for me starting my coaching business from the position I’m in. Only because I know how much I struggled to come up with a solution to get a start. For me it was getting a job in regenerative agriculture. I don’t believe that is the right path for everyone unless you’re young and start as an intern.
In the Making Your Own Luck story it’s obvious he missed opportunities that were staring him right in the face. Love was literally asking for him. He was handed a fortune he refused. He was his own worst enemy! Life truly is a choose your own adventure when it comes down to it. Especially when we start to understand how to let go of that which isn’t serving us.
Knowing that land is a huge equation of the homesteading adventure I have researched various ways to acquire it. One in which I have done is owner financed opportunities. Two years ago I purchased 6 acres in southern Missouri for about thirty thousand dollars. I purchased site unseen with five thousand down, paying three hundred a month for the next seven years. This was a great deal for me on a farm managers salary. No credit check, just cash and a binding agreement. I’ve since visited and appreciates this Ozark gem. It’s more of an investment as living there seems impractical as we’d like to stay closer to family.
Looking at this business model I realized the seller of this land is making a good return by selling his 500 acres off in 5 acre parcels parcels because he can sell each one at 2 to 3X more per acre.
Why don’t I get into the land wholesale business? It makes sense that I would be able to fund my ideas to help people on their journey, show people another option, and access land at lower prices. So that is what I’m doing, learning all the details of no or low money down land contracting. At first I was going to join up with Jack Bosch’s Land Flipping Academy, the price was very high and the techniques were lacking compared to Michael Robertsons with Land Flipping For Beginners. He only works with 40 people at a time and actually gets on deals with you until you get confident enough to work alone.
Yesterday while driving before a Zoom call with Michael I saw something green floating in the air that was too perfect looking to be regular paper or a leaf. I quickly pulled over and waited for the wind to catch up and sure enough it was $20 with andrew Jackson winking at me that this is the right opportunity.
Understanding my story from a genetic perspective has allowed me to release family karma and empower my mission. I grew up believing that it was destiny to have lost my family endowment and that’s just the way it is. My great great grandfather Lyans was a ranch owner in La Canada California. During the great depression his son editor of The Los Angeles Farm and Garden section convinced him to subdivide 99% of his land and sell it off in 1/4 acre lots. Today it houses, doctors, dentists and TV news anchors. Up until 5 years ago included the family home apply named Lyans Drive where I was born. A great loss for me when my grandparents and dear friends passed away. It drives me to build my own family fortune, land and steward it in beauty for health and prosperity. Ultimately we own nothing, but we can be rooted and we can make it better than it was before we came.
Coming into this program with the knowledge of Wallace D. Wattles, The Science of Getting Rich, Tyler Watson, Abundance Allignment Technique, Jonathon Parker, Decoding The Abundance Mindset, I have literally no doubt I will be successful at learning and applying this information. That may sound over confident and I know I must always be aware of potential pitfalls and difficulties. Never the less if we arm ourselves with the correct tools we can build whatever we can imagine.
I foresee a time in the not too distant future in which I will have the skills to acquire land, build a thriving homestead, with a prolific garden, a few animals, a solid income, family security, legacy with all the lawful rights where within and hither to. That I may be able to show you the way in case you need help, just like a good neighbor should.
